welcome to Pancakes & Biscotti!

I’m Francesca Bruzzese, an Italo-American food blogger originally from Rhode Island and living in Rome since 2011.

I was lucky to be born into an Italian family of excellent cooks that always surrounded me with good food. Each Sunday, my nonna would prepare il pranzo della domenica (Sunday lunch) and I was the only kid who could name every kind of pasta shape off the top of my head (no one understood what I was talking about when I told them I had bucatini for dinner). Having said this, I also grew up eating peanut butter sandwiches and pancakes like American kids do. My first recipe was a brownie pie at age 14, followed by baked Alaska – and I quickly took up making my own bread and gelato, too.

Pancakes & Biscotti is an ode to my Italian and American roots, so you’ll find everything from regional pasta recipes like Roman cacio e pepe and Sicilian cannoli to American comfort food, like strawberry cheesecake and cornbread muffins with maple butter. I love trying out new recipes and sharing my thoughts with you, so you’ll find lots of musings here, along with some travel guides and posts on the Eternal City itself.

When I’m not cooking or baking, you can find me cuddling with my adopted dog Nina or eating my way through Rome’s best restaurants with my twin sister Alexandra, who happens to be helpless in the kitchen but is an excellent food critic (we may be identical twins but we do have our differences!)
